The central government has launched the PAN Card 2.0 initiative. It is supposed to streamline the approach to taxpayer identification. Through this initiative, taxpayers will be eligible for a free e-PAN card, designed to simplify processes and enhance security. Announced in the 2023 Union Budget, this program aims to establish the PAN card as a universal identifier for government digital platforms while eliminating the risk of individuals possessing multiple PAN cards.

Things to know about PAN Card 2.0
1. The e-PAN card will be issued at no cost to taxpayers and sent in a digital format to their registered email addresses.
2. Each e-PAN will include a QR code, allowing quick and accurate verification of the cardholder’s details.
3. The PAN card will serve as a single identification number for government departments, enhancing integration across platforms.
How to Download Your e-PAN 2.0 Card
Taxpayers whose PAN cards have been issued by NSDL or UTIITSL can easily download their e-PAN cards by following these steps:
1. First Access the NSDL e-PAN Portal by navigating to the official NSDL website.
2. Then Log In using details like PAN number, Aadhaar number (for individuals), Date of birth
3. Now Agree to the terms by ticking the checkbox and clicking the submit button.
4. Then Verify your Personal Details and Review your registered information as displayed on the screen.
5. Now it’s time for OTP Verification, Choose an OTP delivery method (mobile or email), enter the code received, and validate it within 10 minutes.
6. Once OTP Verification is completed, the e-PAN card will be ready for download.
Physical PAN Cards
While the e-PAN card is free of charge, some people would like to have physical card. Those who prefer a physical version will need to pay a small fee. However, for most purposes, the digital e-PAN card is sufficient.
