The Central Board of Secondary Education published the date sheets for the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations of 2027 on November 6, fixing February 16 as the first paper for both classes. The Class 10 timetable closes on March 9. The Class 12 timetable runs to April 9, 52 days after it opens.
Both documents, dated November 6, cover 204 subjects, 83 in Class 10 and 121 in Class 12. Every paper is a single morning shift that begins at 10:30 am, with three-hour papers ending at 1:30 pm and two-hour skill and elective papers ending at 12:30 pm.

JEE Main 2027 Registration Opens, Dates Revised
Two Timetables, Two Very Different Shapes
Class 10 opens with Painting on February 16 and moves to Mathematics the next day. Science follows on February 22, English on February 26, Hindi on March 3 and Social Science on March 8, so five mainstream papers sit inside 20 days with four to five days between them.
Class 12 starts with Physics on February 16. Accountancy is on February 23, Geography on February 25, Chemistry on February 27, English on March 5 and Mathematics on March 9. The senior schedule then stretches: Hindi on March 13, Economics on March 16, Political Science on March 19, Biology on March 25, History on March 27, Computer Science on March 31 and Business Studies on April 1.

The Gaps Students Will Argue About
Read as a science candidate’s calendar, the schedule front-loads the two heaviest papers. Physics leaves 11 days before Chemistry, and Mathematics arrives four days after English. Biology, the fourth core paper of the physics, chemistry and biology combination, is on March 25, so a medical aspirant finishes the core syllabus 16 days after the mathematics paper.
Commerce has the opposite problem. Accountancy is on February 23 and Business Studies on April 1, 37 days apart, with Economics on March 16 in between. A candidate who also takes Computer Science writes it on March 31 and Business Studies the next morning.
Class 10 is tighter still. Its five main papers run from February 17 to March 8, roughly one every five days, with English and Hindi placed between Science and Social Science. A Class 10 candidate gets about four clear days per subject, a little under half the gap a Class 12 science student gets between Physics and Chemistry.
Holi Falls On March 22, And Five Papers Fall With It
Holi in 2027 falls on Monday, March 22, and five Class 12 papers sit on that date: Knowledge Tradition and Practices of India, Bhoti and Kokborok in the three-hour slot, and Banking and Electronic Technology in the two-hour slot. CBSE has notified no change. The board has revised board date sheets before, most recently in a revised 2026 sheet dated December 31, 2025, but candidates holding those subject codes cannot assume a shift.
What The Numbers Say About This Batch
The registration count reported with the date sheet differs by outlet. The Times of India put Class 10 at more than 26.5 lakh candidates and Class 12 at 19.18 lakh, a combined 45.7 lakh. Careers360 reported 19.8 lakh for Class 12. CBSE has published no consolidated figure with the date sheet, so the defensible reading is 45.7 lakh to 46.3 lakh candidates across 204 papers.
The board said it built the timetable while weighing more than 40,000 subject combinations and the tentative schedules of major entrance tests, and that it tried to finish the Class 12 papers before those tests. Two related circulars went up the same day, on subject-wise marks bifurcation and on practical assessment for winter-bound schools.
The Desk View
Analysis: the shape of the calendar, not the release date, is the story. Publishing in early November gives schools 102 days before the first paper, enough to plan pre-boards and practical examinations around fixed dates. What the schedule does not do is treat the streams alike. A science candidate’s two hardest papers sit 11 days apart while a commerce candidate waits 37 days between Accountancy and Business Studies. The likeliest explanation is logistics, the candidate load on each paper and the centres every subject needs, and the board has published no rationale that settles it.
Candidates should work from the subject codes on their own registration rather than the headline dates, because two-hour skill papers share days with three-hour academic papers. The next things to watch are the practical examination schedule for regular schools, which CBSE notifies separately, and any revision notice for the papers fixed on March 22.
