Southern India is bracing for continued heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warning of showers and thunderstorms across various states in India. This majorly include Kerela, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Yanam and Lakshadweep.

What IMD has predicted for South India?

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are expected at some places. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu and Kerala from 12th to 18th October. South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam may see rain on 13th and 14th October.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected. Wind speeds may reach 30-40 kmph. Areas affected include Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana from 12th to 16th October. Lakshadweep may experience similar conditions on 12th and 13th October.

Potential Impact of heavy downpour in Southern India

Heavy rainfall across South India is expected to cause significant impacts, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The  low-lying areas face heightened risks of flooding. Urban centers like Chennai and Bengaluru are likely to experience waterlogging, leading to potential disruptions in transportation and daily activities.

In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, agricultural activities may be affected. The increased risks of crop damage and challenges in harvesting due to excessive rainfall and water accumulation in fields.

Weather condition predicted for North east India?

As per the lates bulletin, North east India will experience thunderstorm accompanied by lightening.  Warning has been issued for stated like Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram. Though there will be a relief from rainfall there after in 1-2 days.

Monsoon Withdrawal in several regions

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that conditions are favorable for the southwest monsoon to continue withdrawing from many parts of central and eastern India over the next few hours.

The withdrawal line of the southwest monsoon currently passes through 28°N/86°E, Raxaul, Varanasi, Jabalpur, Akola, Ahilyanagar, Alibag . Conditions are expected to further support withdrawal from the remaining of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, as well as entire Jharkhand and parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Telangana as per the report of CNBC TV 18.
