A door-to-door parcel service between Mumbai and Kolkata has been introduced by Indian Railways. In terms of updating India’s logistics system, this is a significant step. The service fulfills the gap among traditional cargo and last-mile delivery and is quicker, less expensive, and more secure.
It includes collection, rail transportation, and delivery to the customer’s door and is created for both people and corporations. Indian Railways now manages the entire procedure; before, consumers had to set up separate pickup and drop-off.
Currently operating on the Mumbai–Kolkata route, the service will soon be extended to additional city pairings. Through the CONCOR e-Logistics app, users may schedule shipments, monitor packages, and choose between door-to-door, door-to-terminal, or terminal-to-door delivery choices.
Officials claim that this corridor’s travel time has been cut by over 30%, making it faster than driving. Also, shipping costs are reduced by around 7.5%, which increases efficiency in cost. Even for smaller shipments, rail parcel handling is more dependable and safer.
The service has been used by major corporations such as Castrol, Godrej & Boyce, Nestlé, and VIP Industries. It is now possible for small enterprises and online retailers to ship packages without having to handle the logistics themselves. Such as a Mumbai-based handmade vendor can easily ship directly to Kolkata.
With the goal of creating linked logistical hubs around the country, the service is an aspect of the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals plan. Such hubs will facilitate quicker delivery, improve supply chains, and reduce traffic on the roads.
Indian Railways is changing parcel transportation in the country by blending doorstep delivery with train efficiency. It will soon be as easy as sending a present to a friend: quick, secure, and stress-free shipping from Mumbai to Kolkata.
