The victim had a love relationship with one of the six accused, who has since been taken into custody according to police looking into the gang rape of a medical student in Durgapur, police said Thursday. According to investigators, the sexual assault happened on October 10 after the survivor went out with a classmate.
According to reports, the classmate, who taken the victim on an arranged visit to a forest close to a cremation site off campus. The classmate and the victim were romantically involved. This is supported by evidence from their WhatsApp exchanges, a senior police official stated.
In accordance with the police, another three males followed the duo into the forests and reportedly assaulted them. The three criminals attacked the couple as soon as they stepped into the woods. Within seconds, everything got out of hand, the police officer continued.
The victim and her classmate have changed their accounts of the occurrence many times, according to police authorities, which led investigators to believe that they were trying to mislead the investigation.
Under a means of ongoing investigations, police sealed off further forest areas on Thursday. According to the police reports, the six defendants, which included the survivor’s classmate were subjected to many rounds of interrogation before being brought in person for cross-examination at one point.
