In a recent episode of season 17 of the famous quiz show Kaun Banega crorepati (KBC), which began airing in August 2025, a segment featuring 10-year-old contestant Ishit Bhatt from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
The episode is reportedly aired in early October. And it has sparked widespread across social media and mainstream media platforms.
During his appearance Ishit Bhatt is reported to have spoken to Amitabh Bachchan in a brash, interruptive way. He told him not to explain rules, demanding options before they were given, locking in answers without waiting, etc.
What sparked the controversy ?
The debates erupted soon after the clip from the episode went viral online. Netizens and viewers expressed strong reactions. Ishit Bhatt was criticized for his tone and body language as disrespectful, rude, and arrogant. Particularly because it involved a young child addressing an elder and well-respected individual in such a manner.
The debate quickly spilled over to social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube, where thousands of users shared their opinions.
Is parenting style to be questioned?
The incident has since evolved into a larger conversation on parenting, discipline, and social values. Many see it as a reflection of how changing parenting styles are shaping children’s confidence. While others are of the opinion that respect for elders is being eroded in the name of assertiveness.
Meanwhile, several child psychologists and parenting experts also put forward their opinion. They suggested that what appeared as overconfidence might simply reflect a child’s excitement and lack of emotional regulation under pressure.
Amidst all these heated debate and criticism Amitabh Bachchan’s calm and composed handling of the situation has earned widespread praise. The veteran actor’s restraint and politeness in response to the child’s behavior were seen as a model of grace.
