Limited Stock Hits Early Buyers

Apple’s iPhone Duo, the company’s first foldable iPhone, has launched in India, but supply has fallen well short of demand. According to a Livemint report, retailers in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad received very few units, with several shops getting about 10 units each. Some larger retailers received more.

The base model with 256GB storage has an official price of Rs 2,99,900, and higher storage variants cost more, up to a 2TB model. Some sellers are asking up to Rs 1,00,000 above the listed price, leaving buyers who want the phone now with a steep premium or a long wait.

Why Launch Stock Runs Short

Limited first batches are common for new hardware, and a new form factor adds to the pressure on early supply. Demand arrived faster than shelves could be filled. Blinkit, the quick commerce platform, sold out of the phone within 5 minutes of its sale starting on 23 October at 8:15 am, according to Blinkit’s CEO. Such fast sell-through signals strong interest, but it also shows how little stock reached the market.

How the Grey Market Fills the Gap

The shortage has pushed buyers toward the grey market. Grey market sellers import units from other countries and sell them in India outside Apple’s authorised channel. For buyers, this can mean access when official stores have none, but it also means buying outside the company’s official network and paying well above the listed price.

Buyers should compare prices carefully, check whether a seller is authorised, and watch for restocking, since supply may improve as more units arrive. For now, the gap between the official price and street price is the clearest sign of how tight the market is.
