B-Arm Medical Technologies, a Tamil Nadu-based women’s healthcare startup, has raised Rs 4.8 crore in a pre-Series A funding round led by Mudhal Partners, the family office of Zoho co-founder Kumar Vembu. Other high net worth individual investors also took part in the round.

The fresh capital takes B-Arm’s total fundraising to about Rs 9 crore, raised through a mix of debt and equity. The company did not disclose the valuation at which the round was closed, or the stake it sold. A listing on the startup data platform Dealroom puts the round at about $496,000.

The funding round and its investors

Mudhal Partners led the round, with high net worth individuals joining in. Mudhal Partners is run by Kumar Vembu, one of the co-founders of the software company Zoho, and makes early-stage investments. Indian Startup News was among the first outlets to report the fundraise.

Where the money will go

B-Arm said the proceeds will be used for expansion, product innovation, brand growth and wider reach across India. The next phase of the business will focus mainly on strengthening its presence in women’s healthcare, a deliberate narrowing of focus for a company that also sells into other segments.

A brand built around women’s health

B-Arm sells products that cover what it describes as every stage of womanhood, from puberty to menopause. Its range is organised around needs such as pre-conception, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, general wellness and menopause. The company says it starts with the problem a woman is facing and then builds the product, rather than starting with what it can sell.

Beyond women’s health, it also operates in pulmonology and occupational therapy, including products for children with autism and speech difficulties. According to the company, it holds more than 10 patents.

Background and founders

The idea grew out of the experience of co-founder SruthiSri Chandrasekaran, a biomedical engineer and mother of three. Going through pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum recovery and breastfeeding, she found that conditions such as post-delivery soreness, breastfeeding problems and intimate health concerns were rarely discussed openly. Her husband and B-Arm founder, Barathram, also a biomedical engineer, built the company’s early thinking around using engineering to make practical, accessible products for Indian women. Sriram Kothandaraman is a co-founder.

B-Arm drew a wider audience after appearing on Startup Singam, the startup investment reality show broadcast on Vijay Television and streamed on JioHotstar. It was among a small number of startups to receive one of the highest funding offers on the show, and it won a Top Ten Startup award from roughly 3,000 applications in the programme’s second season.

Financials and valuation

The company has not disclosed its revenue or its valuation. It has raised about Rs 9 crore in total so far, spread across equity and debt. The figure on the Dealroom listing, about $496,000 for this round, is in line with the rupee amount the company confirmed, and points to the modest scale of an early-stage round.

What happens next

The new money is small by venture standards, but it gives B-Arm room to widen distribution and add products at a stage when many consumer healthcare brands are still testing demand. The company’s bet is that a trusted, science-led brand can win repeat customers across a woman’s life rather than sell a single product. How quickly it turns that community into steady revenue will shape its next, larger round.
