EV Charging Software Startup Ionage Raises $1.3 Million in Pre-Series A Round

EV charging software company Ionage has raised USD 1.3 million in a pre-Series A funding round. The Bengaluru-based startup sells the software layer that sits on top of India’s public charging networks, and the new money is meant to spread that layer across more of the country.

The round was co-led by strategic investors and a consortium of CXOs from energy and infrastructure companies. The company did not name the individual backers or disclose a valuation.

The funding round and its backers

According to the company’s press release, as reported by Entrackr and Mercom India, the round was co-led by strategic investors and a group of CXOs from energy and infrastructure firms. Ionage described the backers as strategic rather than purely financial, which fits a business that depends on partnerships with power companies, charger makers and site owners.

How Ionage plans to use the funds

The startup said it will use the capital for three goals: expand coverage to 100 percent of active EV charging networks in India, improve charger discovery and payments so a driver can find, use and pay for power without a separate app for every operator, and help small and mid-sized charge point operators, known as CPOs, run their stations more efficiently.

Atlas Atomics, the nuclear energy startup co-founded and backed by Vivek Ramaswamy, raised about USD 400 million in a round led by General Catalyst at a valuation of roughly USD 1.9 billion. The platform and how it earns

Ionage runs what it calls an operating system for EV charging. Its tools include Nexus, for operators to manage networks, monitor sessions, track users and control access; the Ionage App, for drivers to find chargers, plan routes and pay; and Flo, a marketplace connecting charging operators with fleet owners. CASA, a home charging and energy management product, is in beta, and a Discovery API feeds live charging data into vehicles and maps. A business SDK is in closed beta. The company has also begun using AI and machine learning for load balancing and energy trading across its network.

Network scale and growth targets

Ionage says it has onboarded more than 25,000 four-wheeler charge points and supports over 63 fleets, working with more than 75 charging partners. It operates across 33 states and Union Territories and close to 3,000 cities, and its platform runs on more than 70 percent of India’s charging hardware. Over the next 12 months it expects to process more than 20 million units of energy a month, on month-on-month growth of over 25 percent, and it plans to help build CPO micro-clusters in Tier 2 cities over 18 months.

India’s charging gap

India had 52,718 public EV charging stations as of July 2026, including 16,561 fast chargers for cars, according to the Ministry of Heavy Industries. The company says nearly two in five public chargers are non-functional at any given time, and in 2025 there was roughly one charger for every 235 EVs on the road. The government has set aside Rs 2,000 crore for public charging infrastructure under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, while research by CII and ORF estimates that India will need more than 1.32 million public chargers by 2030.

Founders and what comes next

Ionage was founded in 2021 by Vimal Kumar V, Vijith Kumar V and Varun Chandran, with Vimal Kumar V as co-founder and chief executive. “Reliability should stop being the exception,” he said, describing the aim as closing the gap between chargers that exist on paper and chargers that actually work.

The pre-Series A round gives Ionage more room to grow its operator and partner network before a larger raise. The test over the next year is whether its software can lift the share of chargers that stay online and make paying for power as simple as using any single network.
