NLC India Limited has invited applications for 1,067 apprenticeship slots at its Neyveli and Chennai facilities under advertisement L&DC/04/2026. Online registration opened on 21 October 2026 at 10:00 am and closes on 9 November 2026 at 5:00 pm. The intake covers ITI trade apprentices and non-engineering graduates, and is open only to candidates from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The slots are split into two streams. Trade apprentices account for 700 of them, drawn from ten ITI trades, with fitter and electrician taking 125 slots each and welder 120. The remaining 367 are graduate slots across ten disciplines, led by computer science at 93, business administration at 72 and commerce at 70. Training runs for 12 months at Neyveli and the regional office in Chennai.

Who Is Eligible
The largest filter here is geography. The notification states plainly that applications are invited from candidates hailing from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, a condition that several Hindi-language reports on the vacancy did not carry. For ITI applicants this sits on top of a pass in the relevant trade from a recognised institute; for graduates the requirement is a regular full-time bachelor’s degree from a UGC-approved university.
Two further conditions will eliminate most casual applicants. A candidate must have turned 18 on or before 31 October 2026, and graduates must have passed their qualifying examination in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026. Anyone who has already completed, or is currently serving, an apprenticeship under NAPS, NATS or the PM interns scheme is barred, whether at NLC India or elsewhere.

Stipend, And What It Adds Up To
Trade apprentices receive Rs 12,000 a month. Graduate apprentices fall into two bands: Rs 14,174 for commerce, business administration, computer science, computer application, geology, microbiology and chemistry, and Rs 16,678 for the two pharmacy disciplines and nursing. In both graduate bands, Rs 6,150 of the monthly stipend is paid by the government through the Direct Benefit Transfer route.
The arithmetic is worth doing. If all 700 trade slots are filled, the annual ITI stipend bill comes to about Rs 10.08 crore. The 325 graduate slots in the lower band add roughly Rs 5.53 crore a year, and the 42 in the higher band about Rs 0.84 crore, putting the whole programme near Rs 16.4 crore for the twelve months. The government’s DBT share alone works out to about Rs 2.71 crore.
No Exam, Only Marks
There is no written test and no interview. Trade apprentices are ranked on the percentage of marks scored in the qualifying ITI examination, and graduates on their bachelor’s degree percentage. Where two candidates tie at the cut-off, the older applicant, by date of birth, is preferred. Candidates holding a CGPA must furnish their university’s own conversion formula, signed by the institution.
That makes the marksheet, rather than preparation, the deciding document. Applicants graded under a system with no published conversion rule face a default multiplier of 10 on their CGPA, so the final percentage should be worked out before the form is submitted. NLC has also stated that completing the training creates no right to temporary or permanent employment with the company.
The Company Behind The Notice
NLC India is a Navratna central public enterprise under the Ministry of Coal. It mines about 30 million tonnes of lignite a year from opencast pits at Neyveli in Tamil Nadu and Barsingsar in Rajasthan, feeding pithead thermal stations of 3,640 MW, and has built 1,404 MW of solar and 51 MW of wind capacity alongside. The notification and the application link are published on the NLC India website.
Dates, Documents And Risks
Selection lists are due around 23 November for trade apprentices and 25 November for graduates, with joining on 27 November and 2 December respectively, all tentative. Applicants upload a photograph, signature, transfer certificate, Aadhaar, mark sheets and, where claimed, a community certificate, each within a 50 KB to 250 KB limit. Queries go to the Learning and Development Centre on 04142-215062.
The open question is how many of the 1,067 slots survive scrutiny. Apprentice intakes in Tamil Nadu are routinely oversubscribed, and a merit-only process with no test means the cut-off will be set by the applicant pool rather than by any fixed qualifying score. Candidates should treat 9 November as the only firm date on the calendar.
