The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission has set its 2026 Review Officer and Assistant Review Officer recruitment in motion with 501 posts, and the online application window opens on 26 October. Secretary Girijesh Kumar Tyagi said the detailed advertisement will be uploaded on Monday, when registration and fee payment begin on the commission’s portal.
The window is short. Applications close on 26 November, and the only chance to repair a wrong photograph, signature or category entry comes through the correction and fee settlement stage that ends on 3 December. The selection chain, going by the last cycle, runs through a preliminary test, a main examination, a skill test and document verification.

The Numbers Behind The 501 Posts
The previous recruitment, advertised for 411 posts, drew more than 10.76 lakh applications. That works out to roughly 2,600 candidates for every seat. This year the commission has added 91 posts, a 22 per cent increase in the base, and if the applicant pool holds near the last level the ratio falls to about 2,150 per post.
That is still an enormous queue. The extra seats are real, and 91 more candidates will eventually be selected than in the last cycle, but the odds for an individual applicant move only at the margin. Anyone treating the rise from 411 to 501 as a meaningful change in difficulty is reading the headline rather than the queue behind it.

Why The Exam Calendar Is The Real Test
The last cycle advertised the posts, held the preliminary examination on 27 July 2025 and finished the main examination on 2 and 3 February 2026. From advertisement to the last written paper, that is a little over two and a half years, and the commission has not yet published dates for this cycle.
For a graduate weighing this against a central government exam or a private offer, the calendar is the deciding fact, not the vacancy count. A long cycle rewards candidates who can hold a study routine across several years without letting other opportunities lapse, and it punishes those who clear their schedule for a single paper that may slip by months.
Who Can Apply And How
Eligibility has to be read from the new advertisement rather than carried over from memory. In the previous cycle the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission asked for a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, a minimum age of 21 and a maximum of 40, with the usual relaxations for reserved categories and an extra requirement of computer knowledge and Hindi typing on some posts.
Registration, personal details, qualifications and the upload of a photograph and signature all happen online, and the fee is paid in the same flow. Register on the first day rather than the last week, keep the fee receipt, take a printout of the submitted form, and read the confirmation page line by line, because the correction window is a repair shop and not a second application.
What The Posts Involve
Review Officers and Assistant Review Officers sit inside the state government’s records and review machinery, moving files, references and correspondence between departments. The work is administrative, procedural and paper heavy, which is why graduates from every stream apply rather than a single technical background. The advertisement will spell out how the 501 seats split between the two designations, and that split matters because the two carry different pay levels and promotion paths.
This recruitment is conducted separately from the Provincial Civil Services examination, so the papers cannot be swapped. The preliminary stage tests general studies, general Hindi and general knowledge with an Uttar Pradesh focus, and the main examination adds the descriptive load that separates a review officer’s paper from a clerical one.
What To Watch In Monday’s Advertisement
Three details will decide how attractive this cycle really is. The first is the split between Review Officer and Assistant Review Officer posts, since a heavy tilt towards the lower designation changes the effective value of the headline number. The second is the fee structure and its concession slabs. The third is whether the Hindi typing and computer requirements stay for all posts or only a subset.
After that, the number to track is the application count when the window shuts. If it crosses ten lakh again, 91 extra posts will look like a rounding error, and the arguments that follow will be about shift-wise normalisation and skill test weightage. The commission has confirmed the dates and the count. The rest arrives on Monday.
