MPSC Group C Posts Rise To 16,717, Exam Jan 24

Published on:

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission has lifted the notified strength of its 2026 Group C combined recruitment from 5,707 posts to 16,717 and pushed the preliminary examination from 3 January 2027 to 24 January 2027. Applications reopen on 13 November and close on 27 November, and the window is not only for first-time applicants.

Why 11,010 Posts Were Added

The extra 11,010 posts arrived as fresh requisitions from departments after the commission first notified the cycle, and the expansion follows the interim report of a high-level committee the state government set up to improve transparency and security in recruitment. The cadre list grew alongside it. The examination scheme published on 20 May 2026 covered six cadres, and a corrigendum has now folded in the 21 cadres whose requisitions came under a General Administration Department resolution of 5 May 2026, which takes the combined exercise to 27.

Existing applicants have the easier route. Anyone who has already submitted a form can add preferences for the newly included cadres without filing again, provided the qualification matches the post. Fresh candidates must apply through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission portal between 13 and 27 November. The cadre-wise breakup sits in the corrigendum the commission has published on its site.

One preliminary examination will serve both the original and the added cadres. It stays offline and OMR-based, and it follows the syllabus the commission published on 15 November 2022, so candidates already preparing to that document lose nothing. The split arrives later. Administrative cadres that ask only for a general degree follow the existing main examination scheme, while cadres with specific qualification requirements, and the 21 new ones, get separate main examinations whose syllabi the commission says will be prepared on priority and published shortly.

One More Year To Apply

Age is the second concession. A General Administration Department resolution dated 5 November 2026 grants a one-year relaxation in the upper age limit for entry into state government service, and the commission has confirmed it covers this Group C cycle. The practical effect is narrow but real. Candidates who crossed the ceiling between the original notification and the revision are back in the field, at the same moment the vacancy count has grown by 11,010.

The Inquiry Behind The Numbers

None of this is happening in a vacuum. A state inquiry commission headed by Justice Dilip Bhosale, retired Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, is examining alleged question paper leaks, answer key leaks and other irregularities across nine MPSC examinations, with IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe as member secretary. The panel issued a public notice on 30 October and has set 16 November as the deadline for notarised affidavits from candidates and registered organisations, in Marathi or English, backed by identity proof and self-attested documents. The vacancy revision is officially tied to the committee’s interim recommendations, which puts recruitment reform and recruitment expansion in the same file.

What The Numbers Hide

Analysis: the headline number is real, but it overstates how much is settled. Twenty-seven cadres sitting one preliminary paper means a candidate for a technical post and a candidate for a general administrative post clear the same first stage, while the main examination that actually decides their fate has no published syllabus yet. Until those documents appear, the January date is firm and the preparation path is not. Capacity is the second open question, because 11,010 extra posts means roughly triple the answer sheets, invigilators and centres, and the same commission is simultaneously answering an inquiry into how nine earlier examinations were run.

What To Watch

Four dates carry this cycle. The application window opens on 13 November and shuts on 27 November. The new cadre syllabi are promised shortly. Affidavits before the Bhosale commission close on 16 November. The preliminary examination is on 24 January 2027. On the count itself, reports on the morning of 7 November carried 16,797 posts, while the commission-linked coverage that followed, including The Times of India, NDTV and The Daily Jagran, put the figure at 16,717, and this report uses the later number. Candidates should treat the corrigendum on the commission’s site, not the press figure, as the binding document.
