Firstwork, a workforce software company run out of San Francisco and Bengaluru, has raised $15 million in a Series A round led by Earlybird Venture Capital. Legion VC and Deel Ventures came in as new investors, with Gradient, Y Combinator, SOMA Capital, 468 Capital and Houghton Street Ventures also participating. No valuation was disclosed.
The cheque takes total funding to about $20 million since the company was founded in 2024. It raised a $5 million seed round in February 2025 after Y Combinator’s Summer 2024 batch, where it pitched itself as a Rippling for seasonal workers.

What The Agents Actually Do
The product sits between a worker accepting an offer and turning up for the first shift. In healthcare, logistics, retail and delivery, that gap runs on paperwork: identity documents, background and right to work checks, training slots and follow ups. Many hired workers never reach day one.
Firstwork’s agents do the chasing. They reach candidates over text and voice, collect documents, book training and chase compliance, running inside the employer’s existing HR, payroll and screening systems. Firstwork says more than 1.5 lakh frontline workers start through the platform every month, with Deel, Job&Talent, Relay, Wonolo and BGSF as customers, and that the work has cut time per hire by up to 90 per cent.

The Arithmetic Behind The Cheque
Fifteen million dollars is roughly Rs 142 crore, a large Series A for a company of 45 people. Against $20 million raised in total, the capital works out to about $4.4 lakh per employee, a ratio that only works if software carries delivery. About 80 per cent of the team sits in Bengaluru, so engineering is paid in rupees while contracts are signed in dollars.
The money goes into applied AI, AI research, engineering and go to market hiring, and into deeper pushes in the United States and Europe. A London office is opening for European customers, and the company already sells a right to work and screening product built for Dutch statutory rules.
Two Ex-Deel Operators And A Bengaluru Back Office
Kapoor, the chief executive, was head of Asia Pacific at Remitly, scaling the business across five geographies to about $80 million in annual recurring revenue, and earlier led strategy at Deliveroo in Singapore. Choudhary, the chief technology officer, was director of engineering at Deel with a team of more than 60 engineers, and earlier built Rippling’s global expansion stack. He holds multiple US patents.
Why Deel’s Cheque Is Both Signal And Risk
Deel, valued at $17.3 billion and processing $22 billion of payroll a year for 37,000 businesses, is both a Firstwork customer and, through Deel Ventures, an investor. That puts the product beside the payroll relationship where onboarding decisions are made. It is also concentration risk: part of the pipeline depends on choices the company does not control.
India’s Frontline Market And The Rivals
Demand is structural. NITI Aayog projects India’s gig workforce will grow from about one crore workers in 2024-25 to 2.35 crore by 2029-30, and each of them needs checks and training before a first shift. Inc42 estimates the domestic HR technology market will grow from $1.12 billion in 2024 to $2.3 billion by 2033.
Competition is dense. Hunar.AI raised Rs 39.3 crore in a Blume Ventures led round this week, with agents for sourcing and onboarding at Swiggy, Delhivery and Flipkart. TurboHire took $6 million in August 2025 in an IvyCap Ventures led Series A. TraqCheck and HireBound work the same ground. Firstwork’s edge is the narrow focus on activation.
Risks And What To Watch
The vulnerability is that 90 per cent time savings are easiest to prove in delivery and logistics, where a missing document delays a shift by hours. Healthcare and light industrial work carry longer verification chains and heavier liability, and that is where the claim must hold next. Pricing is open too: a one time clearance is a low value transaction, while credential renewals carry the durable contract.
Analysis: applied AI is landing in this workflow rather than in white collar knowledge work because the return is countable. A buyer can measure hours saved per hire and shifts filled on time, which prices the software against the people doing the chasing today. The test for Firstwork is not whether the agents work but what share of revenue comes from repeat work.
