Bharat Electronics Limited opened online applications at 2 pm on Wednesday for 350 Probationary Engineer posts. Advertisement 17556/HR/All-India/2026, dated 28 October, carries 200 vacancies in Electronics and 150 in Mechanical, all in the E-II grade and on an all India basis.
The window closes at 11:59 pm on 18 November. Every post carries a basic pay of Rs 40,000 in a scale that runs to Rs 1,40,000 with a three per cent annual increment, and BEL puts the approximate cost to company at Rs 13 lakh. That scale is due for revision from 1 January 2027.

Who Can Apply, And Who Cannot
The degree rule is strict. Unreserved, EWS and OBC (non creamy layer) candidates need a first class in B.E, B.Tech or a four year B.Sc engineering course in Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Telecommunication, Communication, Telecommunication or Mechanical. First class AMIE, AMIETE and GIETE holders qualify too, while SC, ST and PwBD candidates can apply with a pass class. Equivalent disciplines and dual specialisations are barred, so a Mechatronics or Instrumentation degree does not count.
The age ceiling is 25 years for unreserved and EWS applicants as on 1 October 2026, relaxed by three years for OBC (NCL), five for SC and ST, ten for PwBD and five for ex servicemen. Electronics splits into 81 unreserved, 20 EWS, 54 OBC (NCL), 30 SC and 15 ST posts. Mechanical splits into 62, 15, 40, 22 and 11. Another 27 Electronics and 18 Mechanical posts are reserved for persons with benchmark disabilities.

UPPSC RO, ARO Recruitment 2026: 501 Posts Open
A Computer Test, Not A GATE Score
Unlike several defence PSU engineer recruitments, this one does not run on GATE. BEL will shortlist applicants for its own computer based test, tentatively set for 22 December 2026, and that single paper decides who reaches the interview. It runs 120 minutes and 125 questions, 100 technical and 25 on general aptitude and reasoning. Each question carries one mark and a quarter mark is cut for every wrong answer, so guessing a quarter of the paper costs more than 7 marks before any correct answer counts.
The qualifying bar is 35 per cent for general, OBC and EWS candidates and 30 per cent for SC, ST and PwBD candidates, applied separately to the test and the interview. Interview shortlisting is one to five by discipline and category, roughly 1,750 calls. Final selection carries 85 marks for the test and 15 for the interview.
Why BEL Is Hiring Now
The intake sits on a large order book. BEL told the exchanges on 27 July that the order book stood at Rs 72,258 crore as on 1 July 2026, with revenue from operations of Rs 5,533.06 crore for the first quarter, up 25.27 per cent, and profit after tax of Rs 1,048.33 crore, up 8.17 per cent. A company carrying that much pending execution needs production and support engineers in the units that build radars, electronic warfare suites and naval systems. The notice and the product list are published on the Bharat Electronics Limited website.
Business Standard reported that analysts see BEL and Hindustan Aeronautics as the top beneficiaries of about Rs 1.1 trillion of defence acquisitions cleared by the government. Chairman and managing director Manoj Jain has said the company will announce an indigenisation policy targeting zero module imports in five years, and import substitution is an engineering task before it is a procurement one. The Electronics share of this intake, 200 posts against 150, reads as a quiet statement about where that work is heading.
The Fine Print Before You Pay
General, EWS and OBC (NCL) applicants pay Rs 1,000 plus GST, which comes to Rs 1,180, while SC, ST, PwBD and ex servicemen candidates are exempt. One caution: the fee clause names EWS as a paying category, but the application instructions on page 11 list EWS as exempt, so an EWS candidate should confirm the amount on the portal before paying. Selected candidates train for six months and sign a two year service agreement, with Rs 2,00,000 payable on a breach, and the medical standards rule out colour blindness.
What To Watch
Call letters will be uploaded on the BEL site, not sent by post or email, and applicants pick five test centres, with no later change allowed. Postings span 13 locations including Bengaluru, Ghaziabad, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kotdwara. The editorial read is that the first class filter plus a 25 year age cap will thin the Electronics pool more than the raw 200 figure suggests, because that branch already feeds the semiconductor and telecom equipment employers. The test date and the category wise cut offs are the two numbers worth watching in December.
